I am Jolanda Snel, and as PhD researcher I focus on ketogenic interventions in brain health, alongside running my private practice as a neuropsychologist in Doorn.
My main PhD focus areas are keto and autism, keto and neurodegenerative diseases, and contributing to creating a method to make the many individual experiences people worldwide have with the ketogenic diet—often undertaken independently—insightful and useful for science in a practical way. I studied neuropsychology at Utrecht University, where I graduated in 2011. Afterwards, I gained practical experience in both elderly care and specialized mental healthcare, with various additional trainings. Since 2015, I have had my own practice in Doorn. In all that I do, I aim to bridge the imaginary line between the psyche and the body, which is still often maintained in current healthcare. Due to my own experiences with life-changing effects from changing my diet, my interest in the influence of nutrition and lifestyle on the brain and well-being has grown even more. In my daily work with clients and colleagues, I notice that science and practice can sometimes feel far apart. Neither strictly analytical science nor the flexible pragmatism of human practice is sufficient on its own, and I enjoy combining the best of both worlds. That is why I’m excited to contribute through my PhD research at LBI, helping to bridge the gap between science and practice—with one foot in the world of science and the other in practice. I am curious to the point of being annoying, so I couldn’t wish for a better combination! In my free time, I love nature, sports, driving motorbikes/old-timers/4WD, riding horses or anything else on- or offroad. Furthermore I love DIY projects, drawing and painting, reading, and occasionally just daydreaming, staring into the distance. I live with my 17-year-old daughter in Doorn, a small village surrounded by the beautiful forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, where my practice is also located. |
